At the age of five, Mykayla's older sister was taking gymnastics classes. Mykayla decided to follow her older sister into gymnastics. At the beginning of Mykayla's gymnastics career, she trained at Olympic Gymnastics and Olympus School of Gymnastics before moving to Desert Lights Gymnastics.

As a level 7 gymnast in 2006, Mykayla finished 12th in the all-around at the Liberty Classic. She then placed second in the all-around at the I Love Gymnastics Meet. Mykayla placed 11th and 7th in the all-around at the Shamrock Invitational and Flyin' High Invitational respectively. At the Level 7 State Championships, Mykayla placed eighth in the all-around and sixth on uneven bars. Mykayla placed second in the all-around at the Jessica Kleya Invitational and Grand Cayon State Games. She concluded her 2006 season at the First Fall Intersquad, where she won the all-around title.

In 2007, Mykayla began her season at the Winter Sun Invitational as a level 8 gymnast. There, she placed 13th in the all-around. She then finished 10th in the all-around at the Fiesta Bowl Invitational. At the Level 8 State Championships, she finished ninth in the all-around and fifth on balance beam. Mykayla continued competing level eight in 2008. Mykayla placed seventh in the all-around at the San Diego Classic. She then placed second in the all-around and first on uneven bars at the Cactus Cup. At the Level 8 State Championships, she placed third in the all-around and fourth on vault and balance beam. There, she qualified to the Level 8 Regionals, where she finished 24th in the all-around and 10th on uneven bars. After Mykayla's 2008 season, she moved to Desert Lights Gymnastics.

Mykayla started her 2009 season at the Winter Sun Invitational as a level 9 gymnast. There, she placed third in the all-around and first on vault and balance beam. After only one competition, Mykayla moved up to level 10. At the San Diego Classic, she finished seventh in the all-around. She then placed eighth and ninth in the all-around at the Fiesta Bowl and Hardrock Invitational respectively. At the Byers Invitational, Mykayla finished 13th in the all-around and seventh on balance beam. Mykayla won the all-around, vault, uneven bars and floor exercise titles at the Level 10 State Championships. At the Level 10 Regional Championships, Mykayla took the last spot to qualify to the Junior Olympic National Championships in Washington. Mykayla was crowned Junior A Vault Champion at the Junior Olympic Nationals.

After the Junior Olympic Nationals, Mykayla continued her 2009 season as an elite gymnast. At a local elite qualifier, she won the all-around title and qualified to junior pre-elite. She then traveled to Allentown, PA for the National Elite Qualifier. There, Mykayla finished fourth in the all-around, second on vault and third on balance beam. She qualified to junior international elite as well as to the US Classic, a qualifier to the VISA Championships.

Mykayla started her 2010 season by winning the all-around title at the Winter Sun Invitational. She won another all-around title at the Fiesta Bowl and qualified to the Nastia Liukin Supergirl Cup. At the Supergirl Cup, she finished impressive seventh in the all-around and fifth on vault. At the Arizona National Elite Qualifier, she won the all-around title and finished first on vault and floor exercise. There, Mykayla qualified to the VISA Championships in Hartford, CT. Mykayla then competed at the US Covergirl Classic in Chicago, IL and placed 16th on vault. At the VISA Championships, she placed eighth on vault and 25th overall.

In 2011, Mykayla won the all-around title at the Lady Luck Invitational in Las Vegas, Nevada. There, she qualified to the Nastia Liukin Supergirl Cup for the second time. She won another all-around title at the Fiesta Bowl Invitational. Mykayla then traveled to Dallas, Texas for the WOGA Classic, where she was part of the international competition. She placed 10th in the all-around and second on vault. A few weeks later, she competed at the Supergirl Cup in Jacksonville, Florida, where she finished fifth in the all-around as well as second on balance beam and floor exercise. In June, Mykayla traveled to Texas for the American Classic where she won the all-around title and placed second on vault and floor exercise. This qualified Mykayla to the VISA Championships in St. Paul, MN. At the VISA Championships in August, Mykayla finished tenth in the all-around and second on vault. She was named to the Junior US National Team.

Mykayla started the 2012 season at the Fiesta Bowl Invitational, finishing first on vault, balance beam, floor exercise and in the all-around. In March, Mykayla was selected to represent the USA team at the City of Jesolo Trophy in Italy where she finished tenth in the all-around, fifth on vault and fourth on floor exercise. In June, Mykayla traveled to St. Louis, MO for the VISA Championships, placing 15th in the all-around and third on vault.

Currently, Mykayla is preparing for the upcoming 2013 season. She is a senior international elite training at Desert Lights Gymnastics under coaches Lisa Spini, Neela Nelson, Bruce McGehee, Bob Peterson and Chris George. Mykayla's long-term goal is to earn a college scholarship.

Mykayla Brooke Skinner was born on December 9, 1996 in Mesa, Arizona to Cris and Kym Skinner. She has three older siblings, Jeremy, Chelsea and Katie. She is a proud aunt of Bradley, Madyson, Mady and Brooky. Mykayla is a homeschooled tenth grader where she will graduate from high school in the spring of 2015.
